Human Resources Manager/Consultant

For Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center

We are looking for a qualified HR Management Consultant to lead a variety of human resource projects and provide support to the success and effectiveness of our organization. You will help the BHNC optimize everyday processes such as recruitment, as well as implement strategic HR plans and technology to streamline our policy and procedures. The ideal HR Consultant will possess in-depth knowledge of human resource management and strong employee relations experience. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and problem-solver with excellent communication skills.

 

The Organization: Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center (BHNC) is a non-profit community based multi-service agency founded in 1978. Our mission is "…to preserve and enhance the ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of Bernal Heights and surrounding neighborhoods. We promote community action to build a just and equitable community for all. BHNC focuses on the needs of people with low and moderate incomes. We work to accomplish our mission by:

 

  • Developing affordable housing throughout San Francisco;
  • Providing linguistically and culturally responsive services to our community's most vulnerable adults, seniors, youth, and their families;
  • Developing leaders; organizing and empowering our tenants, clients, members, and allies to advocate for their needs and for the needs of the community.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

 

  • Conduct a needs assessment for our human resources policies and procedures and create and manage a plan of action.
  • Initiate and lead human resource programs and projects
  • Coordinate full-cycle recruitment process: draft job descriptions; prepare and post open positions; coordinate screening and candidate interview process; conduct background checks and manage recruitment logistics.
  • Coordinates/conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations
  • Evaluate current performance development system and assist us in creating a new system that helps managers and employees and employees set goals that align with organizational priorities as well as individual employee growth.
  • Manage employee performance improvement plans and termination process with managers and senior leadership, and in accordance with organizational policy.
  • Advise, train and coach management staff in supervisory principles and techniques.
  • Coordinate activities and explore resources to promote equity and inclusion and to support a trusting and fun work environment.
  • Coordinate and assist in staff and management training opportunities and other activities to grow staff experience, expertise and opportunity.
  • Update and maintain employee handbook for state and federal compliance; assist with research and development of organizational HR policies, procedures and processes.
  • Work with Executive Director to devise plans and techniques to drive change and culture management.
  • Build trust with staff and be an active listener and effective problem solve of emerging issues issues.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • 5+ years' experience across a broad range of HR disciplines, including: employee relations, benefits, performance management and recruitment. Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • BS/BA in human resources, business administration or relevant field.
  • Knowledge of the principles and best practices of human resources management and of federal, state, San Francisco and local laws, statutes and regulations and compliance.
  • Proficient with technology including Gmail Suite, Google Docs, Slack, Monday and HRIS/Benefits/Payroll Software
  • Professional presence and customer service orientation. Excellent communication skills and ability to respond to managers and employees calmly and with confidentiality.
  • Experience in employee relations and conflict management.
  • Experience with and orientation to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) workplace principles and cultural humility practices.
  • Can-do, problem-solving orientation; good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Compassion, clarity and confidentiality with respect to employee concerns, organizational culture, staff development and teambuilding.
  • Able to exercise discretion and sound judgment on a daily basis.
  • Experience in overseeing and implementing confidential policies and procedures that include mandated reporting laws, severance, terminations, COVID-19 notifications.
  • Commitment to social justice, delivery of quality services

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires frequent sitting, typing and computer use * occasionally requires pushing and/or pulling objects, walk up and down stairs and/or hills, lifting and/or carrying up to 25 lbs.

* requires the ability to frequently move about or remain seated depending on the task at hand.

Reporting to the Chief Growth Officer/President, this position will primarily focus on leading distributor strategy & management efforts, lead sales forecasting efforts and serve as the critical bridge between Sales & Operations. The role will also build & lead the customer service team.

Key Responsibilities:
• Partner with Chief Growth Officer to build sales forecasts (annual/monthly) to ensure demand is forecasted as accurately as possible and communicated across the organization
• Manage distribution partners to achieve the defined goals and KPI's
• Server as sales thought leader and partner with operations on all supply/demand dimensions – lead sales/operations meetings
• Manage the setup of all new customers (distributors and direct retailers) by supplying required product information and reviewing all partnership agreements with Legal, Marketing and Operations
• Manage incoming purchase orders and operational requirements
• Develop and manage strategic partnerships with Sales Managers, Customers, Distribution Partners and Warehousing to provide world-class support and resolve any issues
• Ensure customer satisfaction through management of inventory, transportation, warehousing, billing and sales follow up
• Lead and coach a high-performing Customer Service Team
• Trade Management – Deduction Responsibility

Requirements
• 10 years of business experience in Sales, Marketing or Operations roles
• 5 years of experience in a Sales Operations role, preferably in the CPG industry
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze data from various sources and recommend strategy and solutions to problems
• Excellent communicator with the ability to present to Senior Management
• Comfortable and able to succeed in a fast paced, growing environment
• Proficient in Excel and other data analysis tools (i.e., Tableau)

Desired Relevant Experience
• Experience working with national distributors (KeHE, UNFI)
• Understanding of order fulfillment via EDI and relevant trading partners
• Develops or manages trade management tools such as Demantra, Salesforce, Demand Fee and One World Sync
