Our client, a biotechnology company, is seeking a Director/Executive Director of Financial Planning and Analysis. This newly created role will lead the financial planning processes and systems. This will include establishing FP&A capabilities, implementing core finance processes and systems, and directly supporting the CFO in future capital raising processes. The ideal candidate will possess proven research, clinical and business development financial planning experience within the biotech/pharma industry. To be successful, the candidate will be a strong collaborator, communicator, strategic thinker, and able to effectively utilize financial data and analytics to drive business decision making. This role is in the East Bay and while initially remote, the expectation will be to return on-site sometime in 2021.

Responsibilities:
• Establish FP&A capabilities that are suitable for today and poised for expected future growth and expansion.
• Own, drive, lead and execute the annual budget process, along with routine forecast processes as required.
• Implement budget, forecast and reporting processes to enable appropriate cash and P&L plans and projections.
• Evaluate, recommend, implement, and maintain an appropriate planning system that successfully integrates with
NetSuite, while enabling for future growth and expansion.
• Develop and deliver timely and meaningful metrics and performance reports to the business and other key roles
within the organization.
• Perform necessary close activities to enable robust and SOX compliant financial records.
• Partner with other finance personnel and other functions (procurement, HR, IT, and others) to ensure overall
delivery that effectively enables business success.
• Assess FP&A demands to make suitable recommendations regarding addition of external and internal resources
when stage appropriate.
• Meet necessary corporate finance deliverables and timelines.
• Be the trusted strategic and operational finance partner to functional and program business leaders.
• Collaborate effectively across functions and programs to understand key business drivers, and how such drivers
affect performance.
• Build analytical frameworks and forward-looking models to facilitate decision-making.
• Assist the CFO in preparation of financial updates, proposals and communications to Executive Leadership Team
and Board of Directors.
• Assist the CFO with future capital-raising initiatives as they arise, including necessary project management for
such initiatives.
• Represent the company while adhering to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics.
• Expect limited travel of up to 5% (post-Covid expectation).

Required Qualifications:
• BS in Finance, Business, or related discipline with 10+ years' financial planning and analysis, corporate finance,
investment banking or consulting experience.
• Robust understanding of financial statements, valuation methodologies and P&L management.
• Proven experience as a strategic business partner across functions and at multiple levels.
• Strong collaboration, communication and listening skills.
• Highly developed Excel and financial modeling skills.
• Proven ability to establish priorities, work independently, and execute objectives without supervision.
• Excellent and effective written, verbal communication and presentation skills.

Desirable Qualifications:
• MBA, CFA or similar.
• Experience with research, clinical trial management and/or business development finance in the biotech industry.
• Able to traverse between strategic and detail-oriented operational topics.
• Ability to prioritize, make rapid decisions and adjust to changing needs and timelines.
• Significant attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Strong business acumen.
• Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel with consistent high quality.
• Team player, talent for networking, driven, passionate, curious and possess the ability to deal with uncertainty.
• Strategic thinker, effective problem solver, analytical and knowledge of underlying CRISP or cell therapy
technology.

Our client, a biotechnology company located in the East Bay, is seeking a Director of Accounting. This role will be responsible for building out the financial function as well as leading a system implementation and other related financial systems. The role will report to the VP Finance and Controller and while initially remote, the expectation is that the Finance function will return on-site sometime in 2021.

Responsibilities:
• Plan, own, and drive financial statement close process (monthly/quarterly/annual) enabling accurate and timely
close and accounting under US GAAP.
• Perform necessary close activities to enable robust financial records.
• Work closely with the VP of Finance and Controller to improve, automate, and document accounting processes.
• Manage day-to-day accounting operations.
• Enable successful implementation and operation of NetSuite, including interfacing subsystems with ERP system.
• Oversee preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Identify and manage technical topics, including lease accounting, stock-compensation etc.
• Manage and resolve non-routine and non-standard accounting transactions.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of internal control structure.
• Coordinate and assist external auditors, tax consultants, and other service providers with PBC requests.
• Own and manage the chart of accounts to enable efficient rollup of financial statements, general ledger and
subledgers.
• Ad hoc analysis and projects as needed.

Required Qualifications:
• BS in Accounting or related field, CPA required.
• Minimum 6 years progressive accounting experience, with 3 years in an audit role with a Big 4 accounting firm.
• Robust understanding of financial statements, technical accounting, and public company quarterly/annual close
processes in a GAAP environment.
• Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, multi-task, and work independently, and execute objectives without
supervision.
• Understanding of functional area roles and responsibilities.
• Ability to manage and develop a diverse accounting team in a dynamic environment.
• Proficient using Google and Microsoft tools, and ERP systems.
• Demonstrated success initiating and leading cross-functional projects to successful completion.
• Significant attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Desirable Qualifications:
• Active CPA.
• Strong knowledge of SEC Reporting and SOX 404 compliance.
• Demonstrated knowledge of technical accounting memos, corporate taxation, fixed assets, and revenue
recognition related to licensing and collaboration agreements within the biotech/pharma industry.
• Proficient with NetSuite ERP.
• Current public biotech company experience, understanding clinical trials and related accruals and external
manufacturing.
• Able to traverse between strategic and detail-oriented operational topics.
• Ability to prioritize, make quick decisions and adjust to changing needs.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work on multiple projects at one time.
• Team player who is driven, passionate, curious, ability to deal with uncertainty and an effective problem solver.
