We are looking for a talented, experienced HR Manager to join our team. Murdock Martell, Inc. is a leading human resources, financial consulting and recruiting firm that provides solutions to established and emerging growth companies. We represent some of the strongest companies in the Bay Area with an emphasis in technology and life sciences. You will have responsibilities to direct and manage all aspects of "internal" HR as well as consulting for clients.

Internal and Client Responsibilities:
• Responsible for managing, customizing, implementing, and administering HR programs.
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing
legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Develop and administer programs, procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals
of the company.
• Partner with management to communicate Human Resources policies, procedures, programs, and laws.
• Determine and recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee
relationship and promote a high level of morale and motivation.
• Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
• Monitor and advise managers and supervisors in the progressive discipline and performance improvement process.
• Review, guide and approve management recommendations for employment terminations.
• Develop strategy, calendar, and content for Human Resources communications.
• Provide continuous process improvement and suggestions to assist client groups in meeting departmental goals.
• Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase
productivity and retention.
• Oversight and management of HR Generalist to perform HR support for clients.
• Prepare or maintain employment records related to events such as hiring, termination, leaves, transfers, or
promotions, using Human Resources management system software.
• Interpret and explain Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, or regulations.
• On board employees and process hiring-related paperwork.
• Address employee relations issues, such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other employee concerns.
• Schedule or conduct new employee orientations and/or training.
• Confer with management to develop or implement personnel policies or procedures.
• Maintain and update Human Resources documents, such as organizational charts, HR calendar, employee
handbooks or directories, or performance evaluation forms.
• Manage immigration requirements in coordination with immigration attorneys for visa extensions, reporting, and
follow-up.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree: PHR/SPHR and/or SHRM-CP/SCP a plus.
• At least 7 years of Human Resources experience.
• Exceptional knowledge of wage and hour, exempt/non-exempt, CA labor laws.
• Industry experience in Life Sciences or Technology is a plus.
• Experience working in a hybrid role, managing internal HR as well as consulting with clients is a plus.
• Strong client relationship and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to lead conversations with executive-level client contacts.
• Excellent organizational, analytical and time management skills.
• Negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written including strong skills in persuasion and motivation.
• Google Suite knowledge.

Fellowship: Human Resources and Organizational Development Fellow -- REMOTE, Anywhere in the US

For a Bay Area nonprofit focused on the arts 


Responsibilities include:

- Assist the organization in developing new organizational structures focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) 

- Help develop employee handbook, policies, compensation plans, performance evaluation metrics

- Provide mentoring to the leadership team about HR management and DEI


Stipend: $25K for 1000 hours, with the possibility of extension

Work Schedule: 15-20 hours a week for 12-16 months.

Work Location: 100% REMOTE

Bay Area candidates preferred but qualified candidates anywhere in the US will be considered. Preference for a candidate who shares the nonprofit's value of fostering the arts.

Fellowship: Expert Researcher and Writer -- 100% VIRTUAL, San Francisco candidates only

For a nonprofit focused on building communities

 

Responsibilities include:

Write a suite of successful case studies of nonprofits to illustrate best practices serving the community during the pandemic.  

 

Stipend: $6K for 250 hours, with the possibility of extension

Work Schedule: 10-15 hours a week for 4 months

Work Location: 100% Remote, For SAN FRANCISCO candidates only.
